GOOD KNIGHTS MEDIEVAL ENCAMPMENT

GO MEDIEVAL GLAMPING

You don’t have to be a fan of Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, Harry Potter or Robin Hood, but if you are, you’re going love this. Located about an hour’s drive Calgary, Good Knights is a one-of-a-kind medieval themed-glamping experience. Spend the night in a luxurious royal tent, a decked out caravan, or a 600-square foot Hobbit-inspired burrow, built directly into the hill. Activities like sword play, traditional dancing, archery and storytelling keep guests busy, although it’s enough to roam about under that big prairie sky, robed like a princess or squire, on the way to the castle ball.

Best Time to Go: May through September

Where to Stay:  There are different accommodation options, and choosing which one you want is part of the fun. The King, The Majestic, The Noble, The Tudor – each are uniquely designed and decorated. I spent the night in the small but cozy vardo, a traditional minstrel caravan! All tents have an en-suite bathroom, with communal bathrooms also available.

Where to Eat:  Breakfasts are included, and Saturday night feasts are included May through September for guests in the Medieval Encampment and for guests staying in the caravans. Guests in the Burrow may purchase tickets to the weekly Noble Feasts or the monthly Royal Feast (3rd Sunday – June-Sept). All other meals need to be brought or prepared by guests. There are several restaurants and food stores in Three Hills.

Getting There:  Good Knights is located 10km south of Three Hills, about 1.25 hours from the Calgary International Airport.

Notes from Robin: This one is super family friendly, and the kids will have a ball with all the activities, and the space at their fingertips! It’s also very accessible and wheel-chair friendly. Owners Daniel and Linda are enthusiastic medieval fans and create a fun and homely atmosphere for all their guests. There’s a fully stocked kitchen for self-catering, and thick warm hooded cloaks for evenings. To get into the spirit of things, guests can also choose their own medieval outfit among the hundreds of options that have been collected over the years. Weddings are popular in the summers, and the camp tends to attract folks looking for something fun and different.
