Defying Gravity

Magnetic Hill

Are you so cool you defy the laws of gravity? To find out, get to the bottom of the legendary Magnetic Hill outside of Moncton. Put your car in neutral, and freak yourself out as it rolls uphill. Whoa, that’s weird!
Magnetic Hill has been one of New Brunswick’s most popular tourist attractions since the 1930’s, a freak of nature that boggles the mind, and slides uphill onto The Great Canadian Bucket List.

Length of Trip : 15 minutes, and a lifetime of weirdness. The park is open 8am to 7pm during the season.

Cost : It costs $5 to enter the park and test the legend for yourself.

Best time to go : The park in which the hill sits is open May to October

Wheelchair friendly : Yes

Family friendly : Yes

Where to eat : There is a restaurant and shops at the Wharf Village located in the Magnetic Hill Park.

Official Site : Magnetic Hill.

Where to Stay : We recommend staying with our trusted partner Crowne Plaza when visiting Moncton.

Getting There : The hill is located at Exit 450 on the Trans Canada Highway (Route 2). Look for the signs to Magnetic Hill Park at the north end of the City of Moncton, off Mountain Road. The Hill is located 15 minutes from downtown Moncton, 45 minutes from the Hopewell Rocks, 75 minutes from PEI, and 90 minutes from Saint John, NB.

Note from Robin : Once you’ve boggled your mind, you can check out the Magnetic Hill Zoo, which is the largest in Atlantic Canada. The Wharf Village has gift shops and a restaurant. So, what causes the illusion? In 2010, a Japanese scientist figured it out and was able to replicate the illusion. He even won a big award. It all has to do with slopes and gradients. Or aliens.
