Western Canada’s oldest backcountry lodge has no running water, no electricity, no flush toilets, and no cell phone service. Cross-country skiers and hikers must conquer an 11km trek, including the aptly named Deception Pass, before they can collapse around the fireplace with a cup of gourmet soup. Since its construction in the early 1930’s, Skoki has been an escape for everyone from families to honeymooners, including royals like William and Kate. While the meals are outstanding and the beds soft enough, Skoki is an escape to the mountains of yesteryear, where modern inconveniences are well worth paying for.

Getting There : Skoki Lodge’s trailhead is located just east of The Village of Lake Louise in Banff National Park. Located approx. 184 km (115 miles) west of Calgary and 60 km (36 miles) west of the town of Banff.
Note from Robin : Save some energy for Deception Pass, you’ll need it. Hiking/skiing in is physically challenging. Accommodation is rustic, as are the outhouses. Perfect for a true backcountry adventure, not for those seeking luxury.
