On Vancouver Island, you can hop in a river with masks and snorkels, point your arms downriver, float with the current and immerse yourself into the little-seen world of salmon. Surrounded by hundreds of thousands of pinks, cohos, chum, sock-eye and chinook, you’ll never look at sashimi the same way again.
Length of Trip : 3 Hours
Best time to go : July 27 to early October
Wheelchair friendly : No
Family friendly : 5 to 12 year olds must be at least 50 lbs to fit the raft safety equipment.
Where to eat : Warm up with a cold beer at this popular local watering hole: The Riptide Marine Pub & Grill
Where to Stay : Campbell River, known as the Salmon Capital of the World, has various lodges and hotels. We recommend staying at the Holiday Inn Express and Suites when visiting the Comox Valley.
Getting There : Campbell River is approximately a 90 minutes drive from Nanaimo Ferry terminal
Note from Robin : It’s super difficult getting a clear photo of the salmon underwater. Unless you’ve got a pro-underwater camera kit, just relax and enjoy the experience.
