Yellowknife’s 20,000 people live in a city spread across the shores of the massive Great Slave Lake. With the boom in mining, the city is known as the Diamond Capital of North America, literally “the place of money” in the local Tlicho language. But diamonds are not the only reason the city sparkles.
The weather played havoc during my visit to the western Arctic centre of Inuvik. Fortunately, this allowed me to get a taste of Arctic delicacies like raw baby beluga, beaver, char, reindeer, whale and tundra swan. A great culinary adventure for The Great Canadian Bucket List.
