Catfish on the Red River

There be monsters in the waters of the Red River! Located just outside of Winnipeg, hop on a speed boat with Todd and the rock’n roll fishing guides from City Cats to catch-and-release a Red River catfish, known for their ferocious fight and enormous size. With such abundance in the river, the Red River offers the world’s best catfishing, where even newbies can land a Master Angler-size cat.

Where to eat : Fusion Grill: A local favourite, these guys were doing organic before anyone else in the city. Carbone: Coal fired pizza for something more casual. Segovia: The city’s “it” restaurant, located in the Osborne district. The Tallest Poppy: Fried chicken and waffles you will dream about.

Getting There : The largest cats are located in a strip of the river just south of Lockport to just north of Selkirk, less than a 30 minute drive from downtown Winnipeg. City Cats can pick up at hotels. The launch is located in Selkirk.

Note from Robin : Bring a wind proof outerwear (jacket and pants) in case it rains. There are washrooms at the boat launch, but none on the boat. The most important tip: Listen to your guide! I pulled some weird muscle trying to reel in a cat.
